Cup Draw
Division Three Confirmation
Hawks Beaten In Final
Double Blow For Horkesley
01 Nov 2009 : Cup Draw
In the draw for the PDQ Cup 2010 that took place on Wednesday evening, the Hawks were drawn against Real Oddies in a local derby at Mile End Road Playing Fields. It will be the first competitive fixture between the two sides since Rishi Sharath & Allan Conybeare's record partnership helped the Hawk's to ensure their Division Three just over 12 months ago. The tie will take place on Sunday 6th June.
Depending on success (or failure) they will take on the winners of the tie between Witham & St Osyth on 4th July 2010. Both ties will be away from home.
01 Nov 2009 : Division Three Confirmation
At Wednesday's AGM of the PDQ Cars North Essex Cricket League, Gt Horkesley were confirmed as members of Division Three for the 2010 season. They missed out on promotion by just one place and will again face Lexden, West Mersea II's, Abberton II's, High Easter & Braintree College. In addition, the Hawks will face Earls Colne & Bures and West Bergholt following their relegation from Division 2 whilst Elmstead Grasshoppers and Springfield, promoted from Division 4, make up the rest of the Division.
21 Sep 2009 : Hawks Beaten In Final
A Man of the Match performance from Bobby Don of Bocking helped the Braintree based club overcome Great Horkesley by 8 wickets in the Plate Final. The Hawks batted first but could only score 148 - a total that looked below par - with Ed Sheen and Niall Fitzgerald leading the way. Despite an early breakthrough, the Hawk's found their Division One opponents just to tough a nut to crack with Don joining skipper Billy Hickman in a winning partnership. Don, who played East Anglian Premier League cricket for Halstead earlier this season, continued his good weekend by returning to Chappel the following day and smacking 127 against the hosts.
21 Sep 2009 : Double Blow For Horkesley
Great Horkesley's excellent 2009 season came to a juddering halt on Monday morning with the realisation that they were going to come up just short on both fronts. Following Saturday's 8 wicket defeat in the Plate Final, defeat against Lexden on Sunday means that the Hawks can finish no higher than 3rd place this season - and out of the expected promotion places.
