Match report On a sunny but decidedly nippy Mayday afternoon, Real Oddies batted first and one might have been mistaken for thinking that Geoff Boycott and Chris Tavare were opening the batting with an extremely cautious start. The first run off the bat did not come until the 30th delivery of the match! Whilst the bowling from Paul Hart and Rakesh Krishnan was accurate, there were little or no risks taken which allowed the bowling to dominate.

However it took some time for the first wicket to fall, a sharp catch at slip by Rakesh off the bowling of Hart. Following that wickets fell at regular intervals (mainly bowled) to the bowling of Niall, Ramali, and Laitt and only Fitzgerald threatened to make a substantial score, before he was out LBW to Ramali. It looked like the Oddies would struggle to make 100 before some lusty blows from Hepburn and a large number of extras due to some wayward bowling gave the score some respectability.

However with the wicket playing steadily the Oddies needed some early wickets to apply some pressure but failed with Abdullah and Nihal giving the Hawks a very firm foundation before the less expereinced man was bowled by Crane for 15. Nihal played well and looked set for a big score before being caught and bowled, but Wallis and Sheen then scored fairly quickly and the result was soon inevitable, despite Sheen being stumped off an expansive drive off Pearson. Rakesh and Wallis steadily picked off the runs until with six needed Wallis was outrageously given out LBW, in a clear attempt by Pembroke to ruin his average (the fact the ball was hitting middle stump had nothing to do with it).

All in all another good all-round performance from the Hawks, who have started the season off in fine style, and are clearly enjoying their new "home ground".
