Great Horkesley Cricket Club First Team v Little Clacton on Sun 22 Jul 2007 at 2.00pm
Great Horkesley Cricket Club Won By 2 Wickets

Match report Great Horkesley bounced back from last weekend's defeat against The Real Oddies with a tight win over Little Clacton at The Chantry. Mo Ramali's 44 not out saw the Hawks home after they had been reduced to 87-7 with Simon Underwood contributing a useful nine runs as well.
Little Clacton won the toss and, as expected, opted to bat first. Niall Fitzgerald struck with the first legal delivery of the innings to dismiss M Cross but J Lloyd and T Little then put together a decent partnership of 56. After being struck for a four and a six in the same over, G Laitt returned to dismiss Lt Clacton skipper Little and from then on, the Hawks took wickets at regular intervals with Niall Fitzgerald ending the match with the best figures of 10-2-22-3. Champagne moment of the match though, was David Laitt's catch to dismiss Newland off the bowling of his son Graeson. Called in to the side at late notice, the Chairman somehow tumbled forward at long on to grasp the ball just inches from the ground as he looked to have misjudged it terribly!
In reply the Hawks set about their target of 138 with some thoughtful strokes and an opening partnership of 40 between Nihul Jayasuriya and Laitt Snr. The arrival of Newland prompted the fall of the first wicket with the left armer finishing with 4-19. At the other end, John Hyde also picked up three wickets and at 70-6 the points looked to be heading towards the coast. However, the Hawks tail wagged again with sensible batting and partnerships being put together. Simon Underwood and Ramali, batting with a painful thumb after a dropped catch off the last ball of the Clacton innings, put Horkesley within touching distance of the victory only for Underwood to fall with just four wickets remaining. Former captain and experienced head Graeson Laitt waited for the right ball before pulling A Bray for the match winning boundary.
Next up, the North Essex side entertain Little Bardfield Village - a match that looks to be between the top two sides in the Division - at The Chantry.
