Boxted v Great Horkesley Cricket Club First Team on Sun 30 Sep 2007 at 12.30pm
Great Horkesley Cricket Club Lost By 7 Wickets

Match report Great Horkesley ended their season on a disappointing note as they were defeated by Boxted and failed to gain the necessary number of bonus points to ensure their 4th place in the table. The home side, however, were jubilant after victory gave them the runners-up spot in the Division after Little Clacton's cancelled game on the Saturday.
I think everyone at the ground agreed that it was a good toss for Boxted skipper Chris Wilson to win. The wicket was certainly damp and with sunny conditions overhead, would dry out and become easier to bat on during the day.
The Hawks found run scoring difficult in the early stages with only one batsmen getting in to double figures. M Dell accounted for Rishi Sharath's middle stump with an unplayable delivery, while the Boxted opening bowler held on to a smart return to dismiss Jayasuriya. Conybeare holed out at mid-off while Shafi Sayed - fresh from his match winning innings against Real Oddies last week - failed to spot the change in the field and gave R Springett a catch on the boundary.
Thankfully, a partnership of 31 between Usman Ghazi and Simon Underwood started to give the score some respectability. Though Underwood only scored six runs it was time at the crease which was important as he supported Ghazi's 35 - the only Chantryman to get in to double figures aside from extras. In the end, the visitors were bowled out for 93 which looked about 30 or 40 runs short of a competitive target.
After a sumptuous tea, the Hawks had a breakthrough with the first ball of the innings as Daniel White, keeping wicket for the first time, held a slight feather of an edge of Chris Wilson's bat to send the hard-hitting Boxted skipper back to the pavilion.
Clive Honey and R Springett then added 28 before 14 year old White held another difficult chance down the leg-side off Paul Hart. When Honey was caught at slip for 11 off the bowling of Hart with the score still on 28, Horkesley hopes were high with the knowledge that it was still not an easy wicket to bat on. However, Bellamy (24*) and Ed Whybrow (36*) steadied the ship and took Boxted home with 13 overs to spare. There were chances to take wickets - a couple of edges going through the slips, but on the day, Boxted had proved themselves to be the better side. For Horkesley, Paul Hart bowled seven overs for a miserly eleven runs while Sayed's opening six overs cost just three runs - all of which were wides! Daniel White proved himself a capable wicket-keeper with two very smart catches and hopefully, he looks to have a good future at The Chantry.
Congratulations to Little Bardfield Village on the success in this division, and to Boxted who have been promoted. Commiseration's to St Osyth 2nds, and Ardleigh who unfortunately, we won't be playing next season. We also look forward to entertaining Braintree College, Purleigh, Kirby and Eight Ash Green to The Chantry next season.
