Great Horkesley Cricket Club First Team v Great Braxted & Tiptree on Sat 07 Aug 2004 at 2pm
Great Horkesley Cricket Club Won By 10 Wickets

Match report Power, pace, and precision batting. Three things that were beyond Gt Braxted & Tiptree Seconds as they suffered a thrashing at the hands of Gt Horkesley on Saturday afternoon. With fourof the visitors top six batsmen failing to trouble the scorers it could have been over far earlier than the five o'clock finish were it not for some resilience from their lower order.
For the first time this season, Graeson Laitt lost the toss. On a hot August day, it was no real surprise that opposition skipper Ron Snelling invited The Chantrymen to field for the afternoon. However, bowling with the new ball is sometimes a prefered option at The Chantry, and so it proved as Niall Fitzgerald ripped througg the top order. First he had Seaman well caught at second slip by Srikanth, before Gennings played on. Bucheister and Cookson were bowled and caught respectively before Fitzgerald's new ball partner Paul Hart decided to het in on the act too. He hadBond caught trying to work the ball to leg where Anthony Pembroke securely took the chance, while dangerman Rob Hill holed at mid-off where James Wallis judged his catch to perfection. To round off an exciting first twelve overs for the home side, Hart then bowled W Hale as well to record his best figures of 3-19 for the season.
Hart was replaced by Allan Conybeare and the African soon got into the act as well. Wicketkeeper Sarat taking the catch of J Hale before "Zimba" took a stunning caught and bowled, diving full length to his right, to get rid of Harlow, who topped scored with 23 despite coming in at an number ten. It was left to Graeson Laitt to finish the innings off by bowling T Hummerstone who had been patient with the bat as GB&T where dismissed for just 88.
In reply, the Hawks were never in trouble. However, there was a nasty incident when Hummerstone collided with Umpire Laitt, but after a couple of minutes to recover, both were okay. Jetty Sarat took to the GB&T attack with aplomb, by scoring 63* to take his tally to nearly two hundred runs against the opponents this season. Sarat scored eleven fours and one six in his innings and was ably assisted by Ed Sheen, whose 28 not out included two sixes.
It was a highly impressive performance from the home side. Despite some murmurings from the home side about the wicket not being of the highest standard it is hard to argue with the fact that The Chantrymen reached their total in just nine overs average a nearly a run and a half per ball! No, put simply, Gt Horkesley were in a class of their own on Saturday afternoon but it would mean nothing if they failed to win their next game the following day.
